Frustrations continue for Arkansas State
July, 22, 2010 Jul 223:35PM ETEmail Print Comments By Diamond LeungArkansas State coach John Brady could only watch last month as Sun Belt Conference freshman of the year Brandon Reed parlayed his big season at the school into a transfer to a bigger-name program in Georgia Tech.

And after Brady thought he had a backcourt replacement in Jay-R Strowbridge, a Jacksonville State transfer who could gain immediate eligibility, even that might fall through after Strowbridge learned about an NCAA investigation into the program.

"Nobody told me these things before I got there, and I felt that maybe if the coaches would have been up front about things that it might have been different," Strowbridge told the Jonesboro Sun, adding that he was leaving the program. "I felt that this was a trust and honesty issue."

Brady told the Associated Press that it was not his intent to mislead anybody. The matters leading to the investigation into the program's possible academic fraud violation predate Brady's time at the school.

Arkansas State athletic director Dean Lee has released a statement disputing Strowbridge's comments to the Sun that there was a high possibility of a postseason ban for the team, saying that he never told Strowbridge such a thing because he in fact does not expect potential NCAA sanctions to include a postseason ban.

It's all a big mess, really.

Geat pub to go along with the NCAA investigation.

Thanks Matt, Dr. Lee, just what we needed, great job. Not!

I still think we are going to win the SBC Championshio this year.

Why dont you include Brady into this list? I'm pretty sure when he says the coaches werent up front with him, hes not talking about Lee or the paper. Now for the record, I think the kids lying, but I'm also pretty sure neither Lee nor the Sun forced the current staff into bringing in a kid with a history of being a quitter. Sometimes when you play with fire, you get burned.

Why is it Matt's fault?  He is just reporting what the kid said.  If this kid was so worried about playing in the post-season why did he go to Nebraska and Jacksonville St??

May have to, but at this point I'm not sure Brady, or anyone associated with ASU felt or feels it is an issue that would effect this kids one year at ASU. They told the kid that when he asked after he found out about the NCAA investigation.

I do not think the kid is lying, I think someone has told him otherwise and he believes them and not ASU. I think someone is messing with our players.

I also think Matt and the Jonesboro Sun did a shoddy job of reporting here.

The NCAA investigation has little effect on the basketball program and would have no effect this year on strowbridge,   why exactly do we have to tell them.   and whats saying we didnt?

Thats the point Im trying to make. The kid has zero credibility, he always thinks hes the victim, no matter what school he has been at. Anyone who thinks the Sun misquoted him, or put words in his mouth to take down ASU, is a complete idiot.

Is that normal, getting one side of the story and running with it?

What about the fact that the kid and Dr. Lee appear to say that what Matt wrote in the first article is not accurate.

What about the kid? It was reported here that there were no problems with this kid in the past and he left the other schools on good terms and I have not read anything to the contrary. Right?

to be fair to Brady though, I don't think  he normally would have taken such a flyer..........let's all blame Reed, it's really his fault

I do not think anyone has said the Sun did anything to "take down ASU". I think the accuracy of the first  article is being brought into question. Had Matt got with all parties involved before publishing it maybe this could have been avoided.

I do agree that if  Dr. Lee had the opportunity to get with Matt, and did not, then he is as responsible for any inaccuracies in the story as Matt.

Did it not occur to anyone that Strow lied to Roberson??

Lee should have just been involved in the interview so that he could have immediately said, no, I never told him that

Did it occur that now Strow is lying by saying he never said that to Roberson because he knows he's caught??

Good grief, I didn't realize this was such a complicated ordeal.

I assure you that he had every opportunity to respond. He might have even known what the call was about if he would bother to set up his voicemail on his university issued cell phone.

How many AD's in the US do you think have their cell phones set up to where you cannot leave them a message? My guess would be zero.

I didn't realize it mattered.  This irrelevant loser is getting way too much attention.  His departure is arbitrary.

That's exactly what happened. The kid made up a reason for leaving, then got scared when he got called on it. Someone planted all this into his head, and I do not think it was Dean Lee. He just used that as an excuse on his way out of town.
