Not much progress on laying the blame on anyone but at least we know the first article in the Jonesboro Sun was inaccurate and that no one at ASU told Strowbridge that the men’s basketball program could face probation and the high possibility of a postseason ban. That is good.

It is also good to know that ASU does not expect any of our teams to be banned from postseason play as a result of this NCAA investigation. I did not know that.

The bad part is that the statement by the ESPN writer that “It's all a big mess, really”, is true. Even if we can find out who is the blame, and I’m sure the good folks at the Jonesboro Sun are going to help in doing so, the damage to ASU has been done.

Lets just hope the damage is not that bad.

Help if we could win the SBC Championship this year.
Go stAte.

How do you know Stowbridge didn't actually say that and then used the interview on 103.9 to cover his a$$.  Just because he denied saying it doesn't prove he didn't.

I was not there so I have no way of knowing what the kid said, I just know what the article said he said and it now looks like all parties agree that what was first reported was not true. Am I missing it again?

This is a direct quote from the first article:
Quote
“Coach Brady and his staff explained it all to me,” Strowbridge said. “I was told that some of these things are still under investigation. By talking to the AD there is the possibility of them being put on probation, and by him (Lee) telling me there is a high postseason ban possibility, I just felt it was best that I take my talents elsewhere.
“If these guys would have told me this first before I came here, then it could have been handled differently. Me being a fifth-year senior, that’s the last thing I want to be thinking about while I’m getting ready for the season.”

I've seen him do stories and he's very careful to make sure he's got quotes exactly as they are said.

Quick question for an APR ignoramus:

If enrolling and attending a class at ASU exhausted Strowbridge's eligibility, how does this affect ASU's future APR score?

I'm no expert, but since he's already a graduate hopefully it won't at all.

I think most people have a high regard for Matt as a reporter. As for me I just wish Matt and  Dr. Lee could have gotten together before the article was published.

My gut feeling is that you are probably right about what the kid did, but that does not make me feel a lot better because ASU has been hurt by inaccurate information and nothing can change that.

The problem lays with Dean Lee, look at his track record so far of doing stupidass things, to people and to policy. He wanted to make sure that we didnt have a home court advantage in basketball. He had the floor painted orange, he got into a huge fight with a long long time ASU fan and supporter, after Kermit started calling him and all of us a bunch of assholes. He then took action against said fan for repeating what that POS Kermit said. He moved the benches so the students couldn't heckle the visiting team, and then lied and said the commish ordered him. The commish did no such thing. No that guy is creep, 100 bucks says he wouldn't answer or return phone calls considering the Jay-R crap. He was too busy admiring his closet full of sweater vests.  Yadda, yadda, I can't stand the thought of him being here. And why is he still here?

Just do like me, keep your fingers crossed that when the NCAA drops the bomb on us, he will be sent packing.

In a very good article in today’s Jonesboro Sun by Kevin Tuberville. Traces the root cause for all of this to “March 9, 2005. That was the date of the announcement that Dickey Nutt would be given a 3-year contract.”

Also said it would not have happened except that "a few well-placed supporters could make it happen, and they did." Really the first time I have seen that anywhere but on this message board here, although it was common knowledge, so maybe we have turned the corner with this issue.

No finger pointing at Dr. Lee or ASU.

Some positive been-here-done-this and still got it done comments by Brady, and positive comments about the expected outcome of the current NCAA investigation.

Article ended with this comment by Brady, “This too shall pass. I’m looking forward to the coming season.”.

Me too.

If Nutt had not been gambling on recruits to save his job with a year left on the contract, we avoid the APR mess. Either he should have received the extension for being co-third place division champs as some  wanted, or let go two years earlier when his contract was up.

I have seen a couple of different posts that demean the 2007 team that won the SBC West and made it all the way to the finals of the SBC Tournament.  I do not think that should have been enough to grant Dickey an extension.  I do not think he should have been given the extension in 05.  But what is the point of putting down that accomplishment and that team?  They tied for the division title with Monroe but won the tiebreaker.  I could understand it a little bit more had they not won the tiebreaker, but they did!  It's not like we have a long, storied history of division titles and championships, so why put down the ones we do have?

Sorry you see that as a putdown but I'm long on the record opposing the divisional infection that has contributed to the mediocrity of this league.

It was a total joke a year later when UALR who was in a three way tie for third, got the #2 seed by winning a tiebreaker over ULL despite being 5 games behind the #3 seed and losing to the top three teams in the other division by an average of 16 points per game.

I hold basketball to a higher standard. We are in the top half of the nation in budget. Getting a banner and the #2 seed for going 14-14 in regular season vs. Division I teams just isn't the ideal I want to hold up. Of our 14 losses, half came to teams rated in the bottom third of Division I. I understand that in football where we will for the foreseeable future be in the bottom quarter of the Division in budget and support, but in basketball where we are in the upper half? Unacceptable.

I'm glad those guys left ASU with some accomplishment to their name but we've fielded many better teams that never got a banner. They had the third best record in the league and that wasn't a bad outing against our conference peers, but overall it wasn't a good season.

Someone posted on here that the problem was the last coats of varnish, polyurethan, or whatever it was, changed the PMS 485 color to orange. I know varnish has an orange tint to it.  Randy Knowles is in charge of the athletic facilities so you might ask him what happened.  I doubt if Dr. Lee makes those kind of decisions.

As far as changing the benches to the other end, I am of the understanding it was moved so that the teams wouldn't cross in front of the other team when going to their locker rooms.  Makes sense to me.

I know for a fact that commish Waters told the athletic directors to make their home facilities so we wouldn't have those confrontations with the buttholes from ULAR in the future.   This was told to me and Jerry Anderson by Mr. Waters when we were at the SBC tourney in Bowling Green.

Yeah, since he's the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, I'd say he has some say on the color of the basketball court....
