Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers.
The Dr came by about 30 minutes ago, and everything went well. It took longer than expected (over 7 hrs) due to a previous surgery, but all is well now. We're not out of the woods yet, but it's looking really good.

FYI
There are 2 options for the actual 'valve' replacement...a man-made valve or making one from the tissue of a cow or pig.....and the Dr had decided on the animal tissue.
Dad will be very pleased to know he received tissue from a cow!!! I think we would have to go through this whole procedure again if that Dr would have used anything related to a swine. That would have been horrible!

Hope they used bull and not steer. Hate for that to take over his system.

We got in to see him for a couple of minutes, and he looked really good. He's still asleep and on a ventilator, but his color is almost normal.

In my opinion  , he's cleared the biggest hurdle.  But the nurse did tell us 'the next 24 hrs are extremely critical'.

That is great news, Mark. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery, and we look forward to seeing him on opening day!

Without a doubt, that is his plan.

They removed the ventilator overnight and sat him up for 1 1/2 hrs. We saw him at 6 & 9 this morning in CICU, and though he's in pain, he looks really good.
We're waiting on the 12:00 visit. So far so good.

I did tell him they used the cow tissue.....but he's so drugged up on morphine, that he said he didn't care.

I've been slipping....but it has been crazy busy around here.

Dad came home on Tuesday....and he's moving around pretty well.  He is starting to appear like he will be in his seats come the first game. He's a tough, old goat!

Hey Fan, glad to hear your dad made it through ok, my dad had the same surgery, along with 2 bypasses, earleir in the year...one thing is for sure, they don't make 'em like they used to.  Those old fellas are tough guys, for sure.  My pop went through this after having, prostate removal, both carotid arteries clogged, one beyond repair, which he suffered a stroke from, and lost his ability to speak for a year, had both femoral arteries cleaned out, and then the heart surgery.  Now he's doing much better except his ankles swell up sometimes, but overall better than you could ever expect.

Hope your dad makes out as well as mine did...good luck to you and your family.

Good news indeed. Wish you were part of the 3-hour lunch on The Zone. You are missed in Nashvegas.

That's great news. I figured it would be hard to keep him from going to the football games.
