Bobby Gross has resigned at Wynne to take the head basketball job at Brookland.  Gross has been at Wynne the last 16 years, thirteen as head coach.  He married earlier this year and now lives in Paragould.  In an interview with KWYN, Gross said his new job will be twelve minutes from home.  Gross leaves Wynne as the winningest basketball coach.  Those Brookland boys better be prepared to play defense.

Wow. That's pretty suprising. I'm guessing he either got a nice raise, or realized the cupboard was pretty bear in the post Jordan Weaver era. Brooklands basketball program has been horrible for years.

isnt Brookland the team last year that had some offense where you had to shoot a 3 or a layup within 10 seconds of touching the ball?

Probably more due to the fact he married the former Michelle McCarroll that use to play for ASU and lives in Paragould.

That is exactly the reason. She did not want to move her 3 children out of the GCT school district.  smiley

the coach did what he could with the talent he had.  it was a style that kept them close in games against superior oppenents where playing a normal style would have more than likely gotten them blew out.  the kids had fun.  the only people who griped were parents who didnt agree with the style.

How many close games did they play against good teams? All I remember is seeing them get their tail kicked.

they did get it kicked a lot.  but it's a lot more fun to watch a fast paced blow out than a slow grind it out one.

Losing is losing. My point was, how can a school that is growing as fast as Brookand is, suck at everything except volleyball?

i guess, just because you're growing dont mean you're growing athletically.  i know they are putting a whole lot of resources into the football program to get it started.

I'd have to agree w/the parents in this case.  It was a lot of run & gun basketball, but without much success.  Fundamentally they were not very good at all last year.  So what happened to the old coach...was he fired?

Not fired at all.  Took the GCT Jr High Head boys job.  Best of luck to one of the best in the business, Bobby will have them a regional tournament team in the next 3 years.

Heck of a coach, and an even better friend and dad.

Bobby is an outstanding coach and made a decision for the best interests of his family.  Not only does his wife work in the area, his little boy (Kirk) will also be much closer.  He made a decision that a man who loves his family would do.  Some things are more important than winning ballgames.  That being said, it was a great hire for Brookland and I expect Bobby to turn their program around to what it was in the early to mid 80s.
