This was the season that everything was supposed to come together for the Arkansas State football team. In his fifth year, Steve Roberts was fielding a team featuring 18 seniors that he and his staff had recruited. It certainly didn’t feel like ASU out-gained FIU by more than 100 yards. It also didn’t feel like Reggie Arnold had 120 yards rushing.
The Indian offense moved the ball rather effectively at times but coming up with points was a huge battle for the Tribe.
What seemed more noticeable was that FIU got its 3rd and 4th leads of the entire season on ASU.
Even more noticeable was that Darren Toney provided some huge plays that helped rally ASU to the win. His interception return for a TD and key kick returns provided the spark that got ASU over the hump and into the victory column.
